PUKULAN JURUS 1 - 18

*These Jurus are the foundation or base work of Striking in PCK

Juru #1 and Juru #2 are known as the male and female Jurus of the system. Juru #1 starts all of the odd numbers and Juru #2 all the even numbers. This is important to remember when you start practicing and learning the Jurus. All the Jurus are learned on both the right and left sides.

The Jurus begin from Kuda Kuda position and use the L-Step as the hands drop momentarily. There is a transition into a momentary Cat Stance as you explode forward into the Juru. The Jurus can be trained with a fluid motion, or a slow training motion with snapping on each motion or as an aggressive attitude all out! Use speed, snap, timing, and power, along with a mental key word to start your aggressive approach to the Jurus. "Remember" We don't just block we punch or break, to destroy whatever comes into our range.

Juru Attitudes and what they train!

In the attitude of Juru #1 it is a destruction juru, teaching to hit, enter and destroy. The attitude is pure killer instinct or what we term "Cimande personality".

In the attitude of Juru #2 it is to hit, catch, and break using an upward hitting motion. The attitude is to feint or "Decoy" the opponent and then destroy.

In the attitude of Juru #3 it is the use of circular motion to catch to parry, and the application of the long range uppercut (sangsot)

In the attitude of Juru #4 it is the development of the inner gate juru (dalam) working on the inside of a punch with parry’s to elbow (sikut)

In the attitude of Juru #5 this is another elbow juru, to develop throwing it after blocking across body. (short elbow shield)

In the Attitude of Juru #6 it is the development of ricochet hitting off of your own body to hit back to the opponent. Using forearm, shoulder, thigh.

In the attitude of Juru #7 in teaches the dropping into a lower level and destruction of upward attacks and the outside ot inside wing type blocks. (Tiger Sprawl)

The attitude of Juru #8 it teaches the first combining of Jurus. It teaches the flowing from one into the other using a combination of juru #6-#3

The attitude of Juru #9 this is the application of the first simultaneous hit block and sweep motion (sapu)

The attitude of #10 is deal with multiple opponents, to move into two different directions front to back, then back to the front again. (Pivoting on the heels of the feet.)

The attitude of Juru #11 In this juru you develop a simultaneous hit block and knee cover, followed with an elbow (sikut).

The attitude of Juru #12 is to learn to defend against low/Middle kicks, with parries to change levels to strike lower vital targets.

The attitude of Juru #13 in this juru you develop the method of multi-angle hitting (pukul)

The attitude of Juru #14 this juru you develop the method of moving forward and using circular motions (buangs) to block/parry and counter simultaneously.

The attitude of Juru #15 this again is a combination juru which includes #14- #6- #3 and the attributes of the these jurus combined. Buang, with Ricochet strike, followed up with a long range uppercut (sangsot)

The attitude of Juru #16 this juru, develops the application or motion required to open up, the centre line, to catch kicks, and enter to apply leg sweeps and follow ups.

The attitude of Juru #17 a multiple attack juru, you develop moving from two directions forward and behind, and develop changing from a high line to a low line, back to a high line. Using elbows and spear hands.

The attitude of Juru #18 In this juru you are learning the principle of Bamboo, to take a blow or punch and recover into a counter attack follow up.

Principles of Jurus

1. Fluid aspect of Jurus (The Square)

Example: Jurus #1. Begin from Kuda Kuda (Horse Stance) and move fluidly. L-Step forward and perform the Juru. You can train it fast and fluid entering in with the roof hit block, hammerfist, elbow (sikut) and then delivering two fast hard supported punches. L-Step back to Kuda Kuda, shift and practice the other side. Practice all 18 Jurus in this manor on the square.

2. Utilizing the flow on the Langka Umpat (The Cross)

Beginning students develop their Jurus on the square, applying them both on the right and left sides. Intermediate students learn to develop their Jurus in the Lanka Umpat four corners cross pattern. To develop flowing Jurus in all four directions

3. High Gate/Low Gate Jurus

Destruction blocking on the high line, and then shooting, to the low line using elbow and knee attacks that break joints all the way down.

4. The Stamping Foot (The Thunder Clap)

The snapping of the whip principle in striking and moving. The principle of grounding while striking with whip power energy, the dropping of the heels of the feet, to blend with mother earth. So that when father sky, blends with mother earth, and fire you have an explosive type of combustible energy power.

5. Elemental internal energies such as (Father Sky and Mother Earth)

Examples; Earth, Air, Fire, Water

  • Water - for flowing applications
  • Fire - for multiple repeat strikes
  • Air - for speed of movement
  • Earth - grounding for strong actions and strikes.

6. Bunga (Flower Dance)

There is no technique, but natural free form movements of the body which are developed through animal movements/postures/mannerisms, and the development of freedom of expression with open hands and weapons. Some call it controlled recklessness, and you learn to respond to any attack, without thinking. Completely spontaneous in action.

7. Jurus at Will

From the spontaneous motion of movement, you can call out any number of Juru and be asked to respond instantaneously to that numbered Juru.

8. Striking Points

The primary goal in flowing to an attack is to destroy or stop the attack or kick. Using or applying a joint break, muscle destruction, nerve hit, or energy drainage blow.

The vital targets to attack are many, but a few primary targets are: the knees, the arms (from fist to shoulder), eyes, ears, throat, back of neck, groin, solar plexus, bladder, liver, calves, ankles, feet, outside and inside of thighs.
